I just don't get it

So, I just got back from taking Destrie to see, How To Train Your Dragon. Destrie and I were the only ones who went and we called it our "date night". Anyway, he has been wanting to see this movie for weeks and so we went-on opening day. 15 minutes into the movie, Destrie asks me if he can have my phone so he can play brick breaker. Seriously???? "Let's just watch the show", I tell him. 15 minutes later, he asks if we can go home. What??? This happens 3 more times over the course of the show. The movie gets over and we are walking to the car and Destrie says, "That was a really good movie."
At this point I am really confused and to make me even more confused, he has been playing Vikings and Dragons with Kile ever since we got home. Well, I guess he liked it... he must just has a very short attention span.
And by the way, the movie was pretty good. I think most all kids will love it.

Funny Randomness

The other night, we were playing "Simpson's Clue". The "Mr Smithers/Mrs. White" piece was missing from the game. We looked for "Smithers", but to no avail. Madee came up with the idea that we could use a little plastic monkey in place of the missing piece. So we did. Sometime along the course of the game,Madee laid the monkey flat on his back and the "poisoned donut" was placed on top like he had been squashed. This is on of those things that you had to be there to grasp the funniness of it. We laughed and laughed and laughed. Here is a picture of our funny little monkey... and trust me, it was funny.

Kid's say the darndest things

The other day we were at Wendy's having lunch with Kiles dad. Destrie ordered a kid's meal with a hamburger. As we were eating, he says, "Why do they have to put meat on hamburgers?" I tell him, "Because that's just what it is." I then ask him, "How would you make a hamburger?" He says, "I would only put cheese and mustard on the bun."

Interesting. I'm pretty sure at that point it wouldn't be called a hamburger anymore.

My favorite day is Friday

I don't get a whole lot of sleep during the week. Those of you who know us know that we are "night owls" and we never go to bed before midnight and usually it's even later than that. On the days I teach preschool, I am up around 6 a.m. and running like a crazy person, nonstop until noon. So, Thursday at noon is when my weekend officially begins. Saturday and Sunday I get up with Destrie and make his breakfast, these are Kile's days to try and sleep in because like me, he gets very little sleep during the week. Back to the main point of this post-

Friday is my favorite day.
1) I get to sleep in
2) I have the whole day to do whatever I want. It's never terribly exciting, but Destrie and I have a routine that I plan on and look forward to all week and I can get caught up on cleaning and laundry and mundane chores of that sort.
3) The girls get home early and we usually hang out and have a fun lunch together-sometimes we go shopping.
4) It's the start of my weekend with Kile and we always do something fun, even if it's just "date night" in the basement and staying up way too late.

It's disappointing when circumstances beyond my control alter my Friday routine. I know I probably sound like a baby, but I really enjoy my Fridays.

Madee called from school, sick this morning. This means no sleeping in today and a sick child-not fun. Oh well, here's to hoping I can get back to my routine next Friday...

Green

Green is one of my favorite colors, so I really like St. Patrick's Day. This year we had green waffles and scrambled eggs for dinner. I bought Destrie a fun shirt to wear to preschool, which he loved and HAD to wear 2 days in a row. (some things just aren't worth arguing about!) I also bought green fingernail polish-my nails have been green for 3 weeks. Green is my birthstone, so I have alot of jewelry this color. I do have to admit though there is some green in my life that I am really sick of... the green carpet in my living room. When it comes to that, I am ready for a change. When I do get new carpet, my living room will be my other favorite color...Black!

Facebook

Kile and I have debated back and forth for some time now about the "usefulness" of Facebook. I say it is good for certain things and Kile thinks it's lame. However, once again this morning I pointed out to him something that Facebook was good for... letting us know that it was Daylight savings. We had no clue, it snuck up on us this year. Here's what happened, Sunday morning I was reading comments on Facebook and one of my cousins had happened to say that she disliked Daylight savings. Is that today???? Seriously, I had no idea. I know we would have eventually figured it out, still I was glad to have the "heads up" from my Facebook page. I will never convince Kile that Facebook is a good thing, but then again maybe it's not...Following is my list of pros and cons about Facebook.

Pros:
1) useful information-ie. Daylight savings
2) seeing what your family is up too
3) pinching your pennies-they post awesome deals on my page almost every day. I have
gotten some really good deals and have already started Christmas shopping!!
4) an easy way to stay in touch with friends (to know where dinner club is and such)

Cons:
1) reconnecting with someone who wants to be a little too involved in your life.
2) someone who is supposedly your friend, decides to stop all contact with you for
no reason whatsoever.
3) this one sums up the 2 previous cons- I AM NOT IN HIGH SCHOOL ANY MORE AND I
DON'T NEED THIS STUPID DRAMA.
4) Such a waste of time when I should be doing other things.

Well, I guess it's a tie- 4 pros and 4 cons. What's your take on this?
Facebook...Good or Bad???

I think (fingers crossed) he's gone...

Sometime last weekend, a little orange and white striped cat showed up at our house. It kept hanging around. After a day or so when it was still here, I had Madee give it some Cheerios in milk-(I didn't have any cat food). Destrie and Madee would go outside and play with the cat and then came the question, "Can we keep him?" I am not a pet person and neither is Kile. The parents at this house are perfectly happy with being a no pet family. Kiley doesn't like cats either. Anyway, I was considering letting them keep the cat as long as it stayed outside and was not a bother. Well, that's when this cat got really irritating. It tried to run in our house every time we opened the door- front and back. It kept getting in the garage and it took forever to get it out. And that's not all. It would stand on our back porch and meow all night long. We had been feeding it and the kids had been playing with it, but I guess that wasn't enough for this cat. At this point, even Madee and Destrie didn't want it any more. We made several phone calls and could not find out who this cat belonged to. Preschool drop off time was a nightmare because the cat was such a distraction to the kids- they wanted to chase it all over the place and the rule is that you have to stay on the porch during drop off time. Long story short,I heard the cat meowing on the porch about 4:30 Wednesday morning, and that was the last time we have heard or seen the cat. I hope it found it's way back home to it's family. Madee says her friend told her that she thinks the cat belonged to a lady who lives on the corner south east from us. I don't know, but I am oh so glad it's gone and I'm hoping it doesn't come back.

I could have hung out with Bo and Luke...

Last night I was going to take Madee and her friend to the movie. I hadn't made dinner yet, so I was going to hit McDonald's and pick her up something on the way. So, I am headed down the road to McDonald's and the battery light comes on in my car... it keeps flashing on and off. I keep driving, order Madee's food, and am driving forward to get it, when it happens ... the car dies. I try to start it, it won't start and there is now a car behind me. I try to start it again- no luck. I get out and tell the guy behind me to just pull out around me. He asks if I need help, he says he has no shoes on but he will help me push it forward and out of the drive through. I tell him ya, let's push it, my daughter will steer. Madee gets behind the wheel and we push. The car goes forward, picking up speed, the guy who is helping says I hope she knows to put on the brake. I yell at Madee to step on the brake, and she does WHEW! I tell the guy thanks and he goes back to his car. In the meantime, Madee takes her foot off the brake, the car is on a slight hill at this point and starts rolling forward, towards Main Street! I am by the side of the car, I run as fast as I can, throw open the car door and jump inside, slamming on the brakes, and stopping just before we hit the curb. Dang! It was just like the Dukes of Hazard! (That was one of my favorite shows when I was little.) Seriously though it was pretty scary.
