Adventures in Dental Work

On a recent trip to the dentist, we found out that Madee had 3 baby teeth on the top of her mouth that had never fallen out.  After looking at some X-rays, we were informed that 2 of the teeth were there inside her gums, but were not coming down.  The third baby tooth had no other tooth there...it was missing...nothing... no tooth to replace the baby tooth (thank you Kile-he had this same problem when he was younger, except he was missing two teeth.)  Anyway, the two teeth that are up in her mouth are not coming down correctly and will begin to grow through the roof of her mouth if left unattended to.

Ugh,  I feel awful just thinking about it.  Long story short, she got braces 2 weeks ago, the baby teeth will be taken out by an oral surgeon, and an incision will be made in her gums so they can anchor on to the two teeth that aren't coming down and pull them in to the correct position.  Each tooth will need to be moved about a half inch. She will need an implant to replace the non existent tooth.   Not fun.  The orthodontist has suggested that this procedure take place during Christmas break.  That sounds like a great Christmas right?

And to top it all off...we get to pay for this all by ourselves.  The dental insurance that is offered at Kile's work is horribly expensive and doesn't pay for much.  So, it's not worth having.     Not feeling to happy  about this right now...but I feel even worse for Madee.  Dang...that's going to hurt.

Poor Maddee. I still have a baby tooth. The permanent is in the roof of my mouth and never came down. One day I'll get to do the surgery thing too :(

Poor thing, I'm so sorry. We may need to take her out to for ice cream or a slurpee :)
