Adventures in Dental Work

On a recent trip to the dentist, we found out that Madee had 3 baby teeth on the top of her mouth that had never fallen out.  After looking at some X-rays, we were informed that 2 of the teeth were there inside her gums, but were not coming down.  The third baby tooth had no other tooth there...it was missing...nothing... no tooth to replace the baby tooth (thank you Kile-he had this same problem when he was younger, except he was missing two teeth.)  Anyway, the two teeth that are up in her mouth are not coming down correctly and will begin to grow through the roof of her mouth if left unattended to.

Ugh,  I feel awful just thinking about it.  Long story short, she got braces 2 weeks ago, the baby teeth will be taken out by an oral surgeon, and an incision will be made in her gums so they can anchor on to the two teeth that aren't coming down and pull them in to the correct position.  Each tooth will need to be moved about a half inch. She will need an implant to replace the non existent tooth.   Not fun.  The orthodontist has suggested that this procedure take place during Christmas break.  That sounds like a great Christmas right?

And to top it all off...we get to pay for this all by ourselves.  The dental insurance that is offered at Kile's work is horribly expensive and doesn't pay for much.  So, it's not worth having.     Not feeling to happy  about this right now...but I feel even worse for Madee.  Dang...that's going to hurt.

Goodbye Summer

Here are a few pictures of things we did to finish off the summer.

Trip to Clark Planeterium
The park at the Whittier Center
Destrie being a knight
At the splash pad for a family reunion.
Destrie  all wet.
At the Eastern Idaho State Fair...such a good bull rider-he never got bucked off!

I am really sad that summer is over.  It went way too fast.

First Day of School

Thursday was Destrie's first day of school.

He was super cute and so brave.

Destrie with his teacher.

He loves playing on the playground.  I am pretty sure that is going to be his favorite thing about school!

*Kiley and Madee also started school on Thursday.  I was not  functioning well at the early hour they left and I failed to get a picture of them...bad mom.

It's hard when your baby goes to school and now your home all day by  your self.  Since I only teach preschool 5 hours a week, I figured I needed something else to occupy my time, so I got a job as a kindergarten aide and I am training to run a half marathon in March.  That ought to keep me busy for awhile!

Love @ the Dam

So, on Friday, Jen, Destrie and I went to First Dam to feed the ducks. While we were feeding them, we heard a strange noise coming from some of the bushes that were by us. So after investigating, we found an interesting situation. Pulling back the bushes we found a rooster chicken canoodling with a female duck. You can see the white duck in the grass.

That explained the noises. After that we saw that they appeared to have reproduced. I didn't even know that was possible. I actually never thought about it. My farm experience didn't involve chickens or ducks. I guess if the parts are there and the correct physics are applied... Why not? Anyway, here is the proof...

It's hard to see, but there is one other (smaller?) egg under the feather on the right. The egg on the left looked like a duck egg and the other looked like a chicken egg. I would be interested to see when these babies hatch what they are going to look like.

Bowling For Soup

So, last night I got to see one of my favorite bands- Bowling For Soup.  They performed in Salt Lake and it was such a great night. Of course, I forgot my camera.  Grrrr.
Kile and I had dinner at Applebee's.   I had my favorite-Oriental Chicken Salad.
Then we went over to the show.  This was my first time seeing BFS and I loved it!  They put on a great show.
So much fun and know I can cross this off my list of things I have been wanting to do.

Lemonade Stand

Destrie had been wanting to do a Lemonade Stand for awhile. Last week Madee and Kiley helped him with this.  (I forgot to take pictures of him and Kiley...oops)  Anyway, after 2 days of selling, he made $24.  Not bad!  He originally wanted to use his money to get a Smurf at Build a Bear, but now he says he may choose something else.  I guess we will see...
*Don't you just love how thrilled Madee is?
